Books Read in August

Happy last day of August! And, for me, today is the last day of summer. Which means that it’s time for me to tally up how many books I’ve read this summer, and that number is 45.

August sure was a busy month. Even though I took a break from my monthly newsletter as well as my Substack so that I could focus on grieving the loss of my brother, it was also a time for me to take care of my youngest kid’s back-to-school needs. He returns to high school shortly after Labor Day, so we were pretty busy getting everything in order for the big day!

I was also busy working on a publishing imprint that will be debuting next month!

And I also stayed busy working on things related to my writing: Meeting deadlines, completion of writing/revising/finalizing a manuscript before sending it off, writing another children’s book and writing a bunch of other things to submit.

I am grateful I was still able to make time to read every day this month. I usually have several books I am reading at once, but there were some days I was only able to read in two or three of them. Still, I managed to get a lot of reading done (not to mention reading manuscripts and short stories submitted for both Twisted Dreams Press as well as the FUBAR anthology for Baynam Books Press). August really kept my days filled up and I’m glad that reading was still a part of it too.

That said, I managed to read 12 books this month and I also finished reading another one which I had started reading in June. I had hoped to also finish reading another book this month, but that didn't happen.

Meanwhile, here are the books I read in August. It’s a nice mix of fiction, poetry and nonfiction. Some of them are books I added to the list of books I am currently reading, that I keep on my phone, and one of them (the last one) is a book I picked up to read for research and I loved it so much that I’m writing a review of it. There will also be a review of a couple of others books on this list.

The numbers this list starts with picks up from where the last count left off so it is accurate.
