A good first day of June

 Happy June!

So hard to believe it is June already. Wow! School will be out soon. My youngest graduates from 8th grade in a little over two weeks! I am still trying to process that my baby will be starting high school in the fall.

Anyway, today was a good first day of the month. Every time a month is ending, I always try to wrap up any loose ends for that month and get it all done. I like to have a strong start to the new month. There are “first day of the month” things that I always try to do.

And today, I did them. Yay! So today, I had a strong start to the new month.

Well, I did the “first day of the new month” stuff for June, anyway. Ha.

I am doing two writing challenges this month. Both of these challenges are in my most recent KU book, The Big Book of Writing Challenges.

One of the challenges is one I have already done and another was a challenge that a fellow writer shared about in her newsletter. No, I have never done it before, but I DID include it in the writing challenges book, because it IS a writing challenge!

These are the challenges I'm doing:

1. Write an ebook in a week (the June KU book)

2. 30 Days of 30 Queries (basically, submit a query for every 30 days of a month).

I got started on these today and so far, on Day One, I met those goals! Woo-hoo!

Also today, I submitted my article (the deadline was today) and I started reading two new books: Cleopatra: A Life by Stacy Schiff and the 6th book in The Guardians of Ga'Hoole series (The Burning) by Kathryn Lasky.

And, oh yes, some other good things happened today.

An article I submitted for a newsletter was accepted. Yay!

The most current edition of Writer's Market arrived in the mail today. WOO-HOO! I was really excited to receive it (I was able to buy it with a gift card I got for my birthday) and I immediately started paging through it. I found TWO poetry chapbook contests to enter. Yay! The best part is that they are no-fee contests. I have entered contests that have required fees and while I paid the fee, it was actually a hardship. My oldest reminded me about how I can't do that sort of thing right now since our finances are so tight. (We have medical bills coming out of our eyeballs! Plus, our medications cost money too.) So I have decided to set my sights on no-fee contests from now on. Just until I get more regular work going with my writing.

Of course, I did more mundane tasks today too. I paid the rent, bought groceries and did chores. Fun stuff!

Yes, there were a few bad things that happened today, but the good things outweighed the bad things. And at least there were MORE good things than bad things! I want to focus on the good things from today. The things that I get excited about. That said, it was a good first day of the month.
