A Reminder to Look for the Silver Lining and 10 Things to Celebrate from Today

The other day, I talked about how important it is to focus on good things rather than the bad things. Well, yesterday, I was reminded that it’s also a good idea to look for something good out of the bad. That’s what I have had to do many times. But yesterday, the bad thing that happened was just so upsetting, it was hard for me to see anything good come from it.

Well, there was something good.

Yesterday, a friend gave us a desk they didn’t want anymore. It’s a small corner desk. Somehow or another, we managed to fit the large part of it into the back of my car (the detachable part went into the trunk). But when we got home and we were removing it, I didn’t realize one end was stuck, and I pushed too hard, breaking the desk.

Yes. I actually BROKE a desk.

I was SO upset! My youngest and I were very excited to get this desk. And I went and BROKE it!

But, there was something good that came out of it. Actually, two good things.

One is that the desk can be fixed. I thought the wood was irreparably damaged but my youngest said he can fix it. (He LOVES working with tools and can actually fix a lot of things!)

Two is that my youngest now has a project to work on. He was quick to grab the drill and screws and started working on putting the desk back together (with my help), but it couldn’t get done in one day. So it’s a project for him to work on here and there: Rebuilding the desk.

After we talked about these good things (and after I profusely apologized for the tenth time), I started to feel better. And I was grateful he forgave me.

I am just SO GLAD that it can be fixed! Phew!

I really need to start being more gentle with things …

And now here are 10 things I have to celebrate from today.

1.  The books I ordered arrived today.

2.  The birthday present I ordered for my youngest also arrived today.

3.  Despite waking up with zero motivation this morning, I still did my workouts today.

4.  Got in one hour of working out. Yay!

5.  The air quality was good today and it was nice to finally breathe some nice fresh air while I was out on a walk.

6.  I found information I needed for a book I am ghostwriting.

7.  I got to enjoy one of my favorite lunches today: Sweet potatoes mixed with chopped tomato, avocado, black beans, eggs and seasoned with garlic salt. I put it on a slice of bread and eat it like that. Yummy!

8.  I drank 10 glasses of water today.

9.  My youngest made it home safely this evening when biking home from a friend’s house.

10.              I started reading the next Warriors book today.
