5 Things to Celebrate From My Day

Today was a good day. I sent all of my notes on revisions for the new Tips book to my publisher, got some writing done in a GHOST Group book as well as for ghostwriting and an article, and got to do a lot of driving around.

Something VERY funny happened today: I was trying to use the microphone on my Apple Watch to send messages to my youngest when I dropped my oldest off at the university after he got off work, but most of the words were wrong! So wrong, in fact, that I had to pull over because I was laughing so hard. Ah, they REALLY need to fix the technology for the microphone on the Apple watch! Well, while I was parked, I grabbed my cell phone and texted my youngest the old fashioned way (going old school!) to explain that I was using the microphone because I was driving and I sent him the corrected information.

And shoutout to my friend, Jennifer, for being there for us when we needed help! Well, mostly it was my youngest. He found an injured squirrel. I told my youngest that Jennifer was an expert on squirrels so we sat in the car together and talked with her about what to do. Sadly, we could not save the squirrel, but I am glad she took the time to help us all the same.

Here are five things I have to celebrate from my day.

1. I received royalties for book sales today – much to my VERY big surprise! WOW! My books are selling? Really?? That is so awesome! Yay! Thank you, readers! And thank you, Gypsy Shadow Publishing!

2. For a loooooong time, I have been editing the new edition of the haunted houses book. It is currently out of print. Martha and I worked together on getting it into shape for a re-launch, then it was put on hold when I got sick. After I fully recovered, got my strength back and had the presence of mind to edit again, I took it back up. I am almost done – I am on the last part of it – but  still got a ways to go. As I have worked on it, I have come across MANY mistakes which we missed last time around. Some of these mistakes are historical errors. (Isn't it funny how rampant urban legends can spread about haunted locations??) I have corrected these mistakes during the edits. Today, I found another one – this one a biggie. It actually said in this part of the book that two children had died of cholera, but I discovered that they had not. Oh my goodness! How could that mistake make it into print?? I really have superstitions about speaking evil of the dead and I actually have respect for the dead, even for those I don't know. How terrible I had this mistake in a book that was partly mine! Well, I corrected it this time around. But, gosh! Just imagine if someone had seen that and thought it was true? Yes, I made that terrible mistake, and for this I greatly apologize. I have to be more diligent with fact-checking with every single nonfiction book that I write or even co-write! I must always check and double check information. It will be more accurate in the new edition of the book, whenever we are able to get it out, and I am SO GLAD that I caught this mistake. Research is a VERY good thing.

3. I saw a beautiful sunrise this morning but even before then, the clouds in the sky were such beautiful sunrise colors. Yes, even though it was cold and about 6:45AM, I was outside and taking pictures of those clouds! The fact that some days the sky is too gray and cloudy for me to enjoy the sunrise makes me enjoy it even more when the sky is clear enough for me to see it. And these particular cloud colors seemed appropriate for the first day of autumn!

4. I saw pretty flowers while out on my walk today.

5. I want to also celebrate finding a frayed area on the dog's leash today. Yes, I am actually celebrating a bad thing. Why? Because I FOUND it! I was lucky in that regard; at least I found it now and not when the dog is lunging to break free in order to chase after something and actually gets free because his leash was not as strong as it used to be. It's a good thing I discovered it. Now we just need to get him a new leash. Gasp! Doggo gets to go shopping! Yay!
