3 Things to Celebrate from My Day

Today was crazy-busy, as every weekday has been ever since my oldest started his new job and my youngest has gone back to school. I can’t help but reflect how these kids are the ones leaving home for obligations now. When the pandemic began, I was the only one leaving the house to go to work. My kids had school at home and my husband was switched to working from home. He did have a brief period of going back to work earlier this year, but despite being fully vaccinated, when the delta variant hit, he was once again working from home. I am writing from home (lost my job in March) and my kids are the ones leaving the house now! My youngest goes to school and my oldest goes to work.

My oldest is now the only one who leaves the house to go to work!

My, how the tables have turned.

So, yeah, things have been busy for us. I feel like all I do these days is drive my kids to wherever they need to go! And of course, I’ve got my doctor appointments or going to the bank to take care of financial stuff.

Today was particularly busy. I started to feel like I wasn’t going to get anything done! But I did manage to find time for things. And I found a few things to celebrate from today, too.

1. My youngest misplaced his water bottle on Sunday. Today, in the late afternoon, it was finally found! YAY!!

2. I did some more research on the whole "pirates in Massachusetts" angle, for the next GHOST Group story. This particular case is NOT based on any actual historical event (which is why I'll have to include an Author's Note about that in the book), but I want to make sure that I get the information right! I never knew, for the example, that the governor of Massachusetts during that time period was also the governor of New York and New Hampshire. I also didn't know the governor was in cahoots with the pirates – contrary to the public image he portrayed. But the jackpot I hit was coming across an historical document that is similar to the one my character finds in the story. (I am not sure if I would be violating any copyright if I posted a picture of the document here, because I found it in a book.) When I was writing that part of the story, I was not sure if I got the wording right. I was VERY excited to make this discovery, because now it will help me to make sure I get the wording right for the document in my story. (Research is a beautiful thing.)

3. Another thing to celebrate today is that I FINALLY got through all of the laundry! Now to enjoy this five minutes of all the laundry being washed while it lasts...
